SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Three places in California landed on a list of the world’s top startup cities, and they’re not all in the Silicon Valley.
It’s no secret that California is home to hundreds of startup companies. Northern California is perhaps best known for being the home of Silicon Valley, the birthplace of social media and the internet, while Los Angeles dominates the entertainment sector through streaming platforms including Hulu and esports platforms like PlayVS and Riot Games.
Unsurprisingly, San Francisco took the No. 1 spot in a list of the world’s top startup cities ranked by PitchBook, a venture capital and private market data company. It’s followed by New York, Beijing, Shanghai and Los Angeles rounding out the top five.
Another Southern California city made it into the top 15 — San Diego.
According to Failory, a newsletter for startups, the top San Diego-based startups in 2024 include Drata, a compliance and security automation company; MK Decision, a financial technology company; Seismic, a sales software, and Beauty Bakerie, an e-commerce cosmetics firm.
