How does CGC verify signatures? ›

The CGC Signature Series Label

In select instances, CGC may accept signed books directly from the signer or publisher. The signatures are then authenticated by CGC with labels indicating who signed them, when they were signed and, in some cases, where they were signed.

In addition, CGC also grades more things like errors and other unique cards that PSA or another company may not grade necessarily. With respect to the actual slab, CGC I think has the better slab than PSA in terms of protection and clarity overall.

Option 2: WalkThrough

Submitters should select the WalkThrough grading tier for modern and classic games, including sealed, cartridge and complete in box games, with a FMV of more than $2,500. The cost of Unlimited WalkThrough grading is $150 plus 2% of FMV per game. There is no maximum value for the WalkThrough tier.

CGC pioneered witnessed signature authentication when it introduced CGC Signature Series in 2001, but it has never offered full authentication and grading for collectibles with unwitnessed autographs — until now.

Only a white page designation is allowed in the 10.0 grade. Paper that is still white, but exhibits very slight aging to the outer edges. A significant number of comic books from the mid '70s to late '80s exhibit this page quality. This designation is the lowest allowed in the 9.9 grade.

The handwritten and digital signatures are first verified for their pixel intensities for identification point detection. This identification point varies with the signature's pattern, region, and texture. The identified point is spatially mapped with the digital signature for verifying the textural feature matching.

The issuer of a digital certificate is called a CA, or Certification Authority. The most important parts of the certificate are the digital signature of the CA and the CA's name because these are used to verify the authenticity of the individual and the authenticity of the certificate.

CBCS solves that problem! The VSP service allows the owners of these unwitnessed signatures on comic books, sketch covers and original art to have the signatures certified as authentic. Those collectors wishing to authenticate signatures on comic books, will have them graded without penalty or qualified labels.

Signature Series

CGC does grade autographed books. If a book is signed without a CGC authorized representative witness present, it will receive a Qualified label (green), and will receive a Qualified grade. No authentication of signature is provided for books that do not have a CGC Signature Series label.
